Gold attracts GST of 3% (1.5% CGST + 1.5% SGST, or 3% IGST). When you buy jewellery from a jeweller, 3% applies to the full transaction value including making charges. A separate 5% GST applies to job-work charges when you give your own gold to a goldsmith to make jewellery.

Example
Buying a 10 g, 22K necklace: gold ₹1,40,950 + making ₹16,914 + hallmark ₹45 = ₹1,57,909. GST at 3% = ₹4,737. Total ₹1,62,646.

Is GST charged on old-gold exchange?
GST applies to the new jewellery; the value of old gold is deducted from the bill.
