Used car loans fail more often than new car loans because the car must qualify too. Most rejections can be fixed by choosing a different car, lender or tenure.
Car-side reasons
| Reason | Fix |
|---|---|
| Car too old for the age + tenure cap | Choose a newer car or a lender with a higher cap (SBI/Tata Capital 10 years) |
| Valuation below the price | Negotiate or raise your down payment |
| Existing hypothecation / no NOC | Seller must close the loan and provide NOC + Form 35 |
| RC mismatch, blacklisted or commercial registration | Avoid the car |
| Pending challans or expired insurance/PUC | Seller must clear and renew |
Borrower-side reasons
| Reason | Fix |
|---|---|
| Low credit score / recent defaults | Improve score; add a co-applicant; try an NBFC |
| Income below minimum | Add a co-applicant or choose a cheaper car |
| Too many existing EMIs | Close small loans first or take a longer tenure |
| Incomplete documents / unstable residence | Keep 6 months’ statements, ITRs and address proof ready |
