What you need to know

Two things are assessed: you (income, credit score, existing EMIs, job or business stability) and the car (age, valuation, clear title, private registration). Passing one but failing the other still leads to rejection or a smaller loan.

Borrower checks

  • Credit score and repayment history (Bank of Baroda’s published rates need CIBIL 701+)
  • Existing EMIs versus take-home pay (FOIR)
  • Job or business continuity; ITRs for self-employed
  • Residence and contact stability

Car checks

  • Age within the lender’s age-plus-tenure cap
  • Lender’s valuation supports the loan
  • Private registration, valid RC, insurance and PUC
  • No unresolved hypothecation, theft record or blacklisting on Vahan

Example: a 6-year-old car can get at most 4 years at SBI or Tata Capital (10 − 6) and 2 years at Bank of Baroda (96 − 72 months), and is not eligible at PNB. Older cars mean shorter tenures and higher EMIs.

Can a pensioner get a used car loan?

Yes — Indian Bank explicitly accepts pensioners with ₹20,000 monthly income; others assess pension as income.

Can a co-applicant improve eligibility?

Yes, adding an earning spouse or family member combines incomes; the co-applicant’s credit score is also checked.
