About this calculator
Start from what you can comfortably pay each month, not from the car you like. The calculator turns your EMI budget into a loan, applies the funding cap and adds your savings to find a sensible on-road price.

At 9% for 5 years. Add your savings above the down payment to raise the price you can afford; keep an emergency fund aside.
A simple rule of thumb
- Pay at least 20% of the on-road price upfront
- Keep the tenure to about 4 – 5 years
- Keep car EMI plus running costs to a modest share of monthly income (a popular guideline is about 10% for the EMI)
- Budget for insurance renewal, servicing and fuel / charging on top of the EMI
Frequently asked questions
Should I stretch to 7 years to afford a bigger car?
It lowers the EMI but you pay far more interest and may owe more than the car is worth for years. A cheaper model or bigger down payment is usually better.
